Virtual reality escape rooms in Australia

Headsets instead of padlocks: the escape room businesses that run their games in virtual reality.

In short: Escape Rooms Australia lists 6 virtual reality escape room venues: Entermission Melbourne (Melbourne CBD (Bourke Street)), Virtual Room Melbourne (West Melbourne), Entermission Sydney (Sydney CBD (Kent Street) and Burwood), Virtual Room Sydney (Sydney CBD (George Street)), Dubbo Escape Room (Dubbo) and Virtual Room Perth (Fremantle (Collie Street)). In a VR escape room every player wears a headset and the team shares one digital world.

A virtual reality escape room swaps the built set for a shared digital one. Each player wears a headset and hand controllers, sees the others as avatars and talks to them normally, and the team solves puzzles that would be impossible to build for real: a spaceship, a sinking city or a trip through time.

The format suits groups that have played a lot of physical rooms and want something new, and settings where props would get in the way. It is less suited to anyone who gets motion sick, and most venues set a minimum age for the headsets.
